Billing & Payment FAQs

Most service plans specify a committed or included amount of monthly bandwidth. ServerCentral uses two methods of metering customer bandwidth usage.

95th Percentile Method:

Colocation, wholesale bandwidth circuits/cross-connects, and some custom dedicated server setups include a committed rate expressed in megabits per second (Mbps) or Gigabits per second (Gbps) for large commits. Most ServerCentral customers will fall into this method. Wikipedia has a pretty good article about the intricacies of burstable bandwidth billing.

95th percentile explanation

GB Transfer Method:
Dedicated servers and some custom service plans include a specified amount of monthly data transfer usually expressed in Gigabytes (GB). This method uses an exact measurement of the data that is transferred through your switchport over the given time period. For example, if someone downloaded two files from your server during a month and each one was 1 GB then your usage would be 2 GB of transfer for that month. Additional GB above your included amount is currently billed at $3/GB. Server Central takes steps to mitigate attacks, monitor our network for spikes and generally keep an eye on things. However we remind all customers that they are responsible for any activity passing through their switchports and they will be billed for overage accordingly.

Invoice Billing Method:

All bandwidth, regardless of metering method, is billed in advance for the commit and in arrears for any overage. If you are unsure as to how bandwidth is billed for your account, or you still have questions about these methods, please consult with your sales representative or the billing department.

Please contact our billing department for any other questions related to bandwidth metering.
